The Story Behind the “Renovation Chaos” Puzzle

A family with four children has moved into a dilapidated house that needs renovating. The garden, which has also fallen into disrepair, needs fixing up as well. The family has invited relatives and friends to help. The father, Niclas, is acting as the site manager and has made a list of everything that needs to be done. He is standing on a set table and directing the work. When the relatives and friends arrive, they take on tasks as they see fit. No one seems to listen to Niclas; instead, they carry on according to their own ideas, with consequences for both the renovation and the characters.

Olov is sitting on a plank up in a window, sawing away. The problem is that he is sitting on the wrong side and will fall when the plank breaks. Sigrid is also working on the renovation in the same window. She has a nail gun that she cannot quite handle. The nails are flying wildly and uncontrollably, almost hitting a poor squirrel on the roof.

Hasse has started painting the façade while whistling, paint can in hand. Paint is dripping here and there. One of the rungs on the ladder he is standing on breaks, and he loses his footing. There is a strong risk that paint will end up on the stroller, where Linda is sitting and watching the spectacle wide-eyed.

Voitto, who is sitting on the balcony and hammering away, has hit his thumb with the hammer. He cries out in pain, and the hammer slips from his grasp. One wonders where it will land.

Ellen is on her way up onto the roof. The ladder she is using is about to tip over, leaving her hanging from the gutter. The ladder looks as though it will fall toward Sara, who, unaware of what is happening, is standing there dancing and raking the lawn. This looks dangerous!

Laila is digging a hole in the lawn to look for worms. Her grandchildren are beside her. Stina is kneeling with a magnifying glass held over the hole, watching an earthworm poke its head out. Vidar is standing happily beside her, eating a dripping ice cream cone. Could it get any better?

Arvid is grilling sausages for everyone. He is not doing a very good job, as the grill is on fire and the sausages and hamburgers are getting thoroughly burned. Ketchup bottles and mustard tubes are flying through the air. The dog Tyra is sitting beside the grill, hoping for a taste.

Kidist is studying a renovation blueprint that she is holding dangerously close to the grill. The blueprint is on the verge of catching fire, but she has not noticed. How will this end?

The cat Kaffi has jumped up onto the table where Niclas is standing and is in hot pursuit of a mouse trying to take a piece of cheese.

Daniel arrives carrying a large saw and looks proud. Oh no—what if he trips!

Arne is building a fence that is crooked and wonky, but he still looks happy and satisfied. Mats is checking the fence with his spirit level and looks worried. At the same time, Molly accidentally backs her car into the fence. This is not going well!
